Civil Engineering : Design Manager Midlands £55 - £65,000 + pkg
A Major Contractor is looking to recruit Design Manager for both our continuing bid work and to provide support from the centre to projects under construction.
Design Managers each have responsibility for management of a part of the work of the engineering team. This work is organised either functionally and/or according to the source of the design work. It will vary as a bid progresses through award to construction. It also involves the management of design co-ordinators who, in turn, co-ordinate and manage the design work being undertaken by external engineering consultancies and the company design team. Design managers also ensure that the engineering team works efficiently with the planning and estimating teams and subsequently transfers design information to site teams.
The individuals will have excellent knowledge and ability in civil engineering in both site and office based environments.
Responsibilities
Evaluation of tender documents to determine resources required and development of a tender programme with the Estimating Team. Agreement of actions to enable to prepare a winning tender (the Win Plan).
Ensuring that the Design Execution Plan is prepared and review same.
Determination and selection of best organisations to provide design services.
Review design briefs prepared by Design Co-ordinators and ensure engineering team provides required input to preparation of professional service sub-contracts. On major projects key aspects of the Design Brief will be prepared by a Design Manager.
Review design contracts and/ or agreements to quality and programme.
Maintain oversight of the management and co-ordination of delivery of engineering designs from external parties.
Hold initial Design Team Meeting and ensure that the schedule of further meetings is prepared and agreed by all parties.
Advise and support Design Co-ordinators in any issues with consultants’ performance.
Encourage the consideration of design options and alternative solutions to improve bidding position.
Review KCL contract proposals.
On award ensure appropriate resource is available to manage the subsequent phases of design work and liaise with Project Manager about hand over of design information and ongoing design management.
Promote Best Practice, CDM, HAZOP, safety, quality, environmental protection, sustainability and buildability.
Ensure engineering team Document Management system is maintained and updated as necessary.
Provide technical advice to projects.
