Rail : Senior Quantity Surveyor Crawley or Kent £40 - 50,000 + pkg
Respected and well run specialist electrical contractor providing HV & LV Maintenance Services within the Rail, Utilities & Power sectors require a Senior QS. The Senior QS will principally be commercially responsible for live projects and in addition provide commercial support in the preparation of tenders, reporting to the Commercial Director and at times Project Managers depending on the project.
Projects:
Rail: Working on electrical and mechanical rail & cable projects for both Network Rail and London Underground projects such as: switch gear, power supply, GSMr, off track civils, transformers, telecoms & electrification.
Utilities: carry out substation construction, installation and maintenance up to 132kV particularly cabling projects.
Power - complete Power Engineering electrical distribution package.
Key Responsibilities:
Assists in preparation of monthly applications on live projects.
Provide management with a monthly cost/income analysis on live projects.
Prepare and present cost/income accruals monthly to Operations Director/Managers.
Liaise with HVMS project managers to ensure all labour and material costs are captured and recorded on projects.
Produce variations to contracts and negotiate commercial agreements/settlements with clients to ensure invoicing queries and bad debts are minimised.
Negotiate with suppliers and sub-contractors to secure best value for HVMS.
Prepare tenders for new sales enquiries.
Provides advice and assistance to Operations Director in planning, implementation, and evaluation of modifications to existing operations, systems, and procedures.
Represents the organisation at various business meetings.
Effective proactive liaison with operational departments re resourcing internally and externally.
Provide professional advice and commercial support to the other areas of the business, including Utilities, Private Networks and Rail.
Candidate Specification
Contractor experience working on electrical projects within rail, utility or power projects ideally would of worked in all 3 areas.
B.Sc in Quantity Surveying and or HND in Building Studies or equiv. subject, unless you have compensating experience.
Strong background in quantity surveying and estimating (post contract experience)
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Knowledge of project finance, budgeting, cost estimating.
Advanced IT skills including Microsoft Excel and Project.
Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
Ability to develop and prepare comprehensive financial analyses of projects.
Knowledge of business practices and procedures.
Knowledge of applicable legislation, standards, policies and procedures within quantity surveying.
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
